Day 16

The challenge ends with a Mayurasana or Peacock pose. And I threw in a full lotus legs with my peacock.

What a great challenge, my arms are definitely burning after these past 16 days!

Day 15

Today is Fallen Angel or Devaduuta Panna Asana. I haven't practiced this one for a while now, so it was good to get back in the rhythm of it.

I can't believe only one more day of the challenge and it's October! I'm kind of liking these shorter challenges instead of the all month challenges now.  They seem to fit into my schedule just a tad better.

Day 13

Today was Flying Ninja - and I'll be honest, there are some days I wish I could just set everything aside, go get dressed up in some superhero costume, go join some other cool super heroes, fight some crime, put some bad guys away, save the the world.....go home....undress, hang up my costume, chill. Wake up and do it all over oh wait, I guess that's what Halloween is for - a one day dream to be whomever you want to be. ;)

All kidding aside, this Flying Ninja pose is no joke, so hard - I think I've only done this twice in my practice.

Day 12

I've been working on my Bird of Paradise variant for a while now and trying to move away from the wall from the hand support. Was finally able to accomplish balancing on my own yesterday, which is always a scary thing. Still not quite where I want to be with this pose, but much more progress than my last attempt:

And the pose of the day for the Arm-Balancing Challenge is still a work in progress as well....One-Legged Crow Pose:

Good heavens, super hard - I still have to use the wall for this one.  Here's to another week to end the month of September!

Day 9

Baby Crow or Baby Bakasana - seriously no joke. Took me forever to figure this one out. Looked simple enough but was so hard and still is difficult for me.  The lift is not as high as I would like but I'm happy to be slightly elevated.

Day 8

Yay! It's Thursday......Tittibhasana or Firefly pose is one of those I have a love/hate relationship with....sort of like Boat pose...although I'm getting used to boat pose and it isn't so bad anymore to me.

Although with Firefly, I see small improvements over time, I still wonder which is more comfortable, going for the the horizontal line with my back and buttocks higher up, or lowering buttocks as close to the ground as possible and making the legs straighter upwards. I chose the latter for this one. Hoping to really get my legs straight in the future.

Day 6

At the end of my practice, I was tired, I was hungry. I was hot and sweaty.  A total mess and I needed a shower badly....I let my hair down and remembered I still had my Day 6 - and wondered if I had enough in me to do Rooster pose or Kukkutasana.

It's not perfect. I think my arms could have been better placed, but I will not criticize too much of this.  It's my best attempt for today.

Day 5

There are so many variations for Funky Crow pose - so I just put my own spin on it.....I actually don't know what I'm doing here, but, I love this challenge, my arms are going to be nice and sore by the end of the month....woot!

Day 4

Slept like a baby last night. It was great. I think playing football at the beach helped. There is so much more I can do, in addition to yoga to help me sleep. I just need to find the time to fit it all in to my day. Sometimes, I can, sometimes, I can't. But it's all good.

EKP2 is up for today.

Day 3

Today is Grasshopper or Parsva Bhuja Dandasana - it is quite the pose. It's an all-body encompassing pose that works your core, shoulders, is a hip opener, leg strengthener, arm balance, and a bit of twisting.

I never have the same result each time I execute this pose.  It is always such a different feeling each time.

Day 2

Day 2 is EKP1 or Eka Pada Koundinyasana 1 -

I normally don't practice this one as often as EKP2.  For whatever reason, the EKP2 is more of a favorite so it was good to get back into this pose, always a difficult one trying to straighten both legs.

Day 1. Arm Balancing Challenge

Woot! It's almost the end of the week....and I'm excited to join in another challenge finally, after really resting a list of priorities have decreased a tad, and I'm ready to get back to doing what I love the most....what makes me feel so's time for me to play again.

And it couldn't be any sweeter than this Arm Balancing Challenge that I found. Oh, how I adore arm balances!

Lovely Ms. Andrea - bottom left, is one of the co-hosts, so I couldn't resist. Ofcourse, I will join in for her, anytime!

So, Day 1 is a Side Crow/Parsva Bakasana or any variation....I did mine with eagle legs:

Looking forward to the rest of the month!

Endless Summer

I get asked a lot from people how my husband and I met. Originally, he is from Ohio....but raised as a New Yorker, strong, big, tall - the all-star athlete in school.....

Me....originally from a small, non-existent town in Utah, turned into a California girl....super shy as heck....and an athlete? I was NOT!

So how did our lives clash?

It's actually a secret.....only a few know how we really met. ;) Two totally different people, from two opposite ends of the United States... He doesn't like summer....I don't like winter.....he intends to take me to Ohio someday in the, I may not survive.

So just how did we meet? I'll keep it a secret for now....

Let's move forward...Marriage is interesting.....there is NO PERFECT couple, ever! It doesn't exist. In order to survive do a compromise, you learn, you balance, you let go of the little things that impede success. You forgive. It's hard work.

Yoga is kind of like marriage - hard work at it until you come to a sense of 'balance'. You don't give up.

One-Legged King Pigeon or Eka Pada Raja Kapotasana was once an impossible feat for me.  I was eventually, after some time, able to flip the grip with my right hand to my right leg, but alternating from my right hand to my left leg, now that was a challenge.

The feeling for me was so much more intense when alternating the arm and leg.  It's an indescribable feeling with the backbend. It's such a great heart opener. You feel so much tension being released.

I've been so lazy since September started, still haven't decided if I'm jumping into another challenge.......I'll definitely make up my mind sometime this week.

I'm Back - and taking it easy....

Happy September! Immersing myself slowly back into my practice after several days off - the last two LAB Challenges were epic, including the Bend and Twist Challenge - and I really enjoyed them and learned a lot.  I think I may have over-exerted my body I'm taking it easy this September...haven't decided yet if I'll join in on a simpler challenge or just do my own thing.

Did work in two, very mild flows these past two days - nothing over 25 min.  It was nice just to go slow for a change.
